With the help of thermal imaging we can precisely locate the nest. Thermal imaging mitigates unnecessary repairs.
All Honey Bees removed WILL be relocated live to one of my apiaries in the Big Country. Thereby, insuring proper pollination of our native plant life.
Last year Abilene Reporter News did a report on all the early wild Honey Bee activity in the city. You can read the full report at the above link.
What is a swarm, and why do bees do it.
It all starts within the nest, the bees have spent the winter just keeping warm. Then the temps get up to 50 and the bees come out looking for food.
To early in the year and there are no blooms so they continue to eat their stored Honey. But, when spring does come and the flowers have bloomed the nest begins to grow quickly.
When the nest has built up to full strength and becomes over crowded the queen issues swarming orders. Upon the swarming orders the colony prepares to split.
These preparations include making a new queen and putting the old queen on a diet so she can fly. Once the new queen emerges from her cocoon the old queen leaves with half the colony to find a new home.
This is the best time to gather the bees and relocate them. I remove both swarms and do cutouts. A cutout is when you did not notice the swarm and the bees got inside.
